11" x 14" high flow acrylic on watercolor paper

Something that has become commonplace in society today that increasingly makes me sad is the photo taken in a mirror of one’s self while staring not at the mirror or into one’s own eyes and face, but into the devices that are perpetually glued to to palm of our hand. It is a odd image when you look at it in a way where you take out to phone from the hand and put anything else in its place. A fixated stare into the glowing pixels instead of the actual reflection of oneself. Maybe I’m just old and curmudgeonly…

*painting uses as reference a cropped image of a beautiful man gazing into the phone in his hand while standing in front of a bathroom mirror.
